Falcons Take Flight 2006

River Valley High School was built in 2005 off Hwy 20 in Yuba City, CA. In it's first year, the school consisted of Sophomores and Freshmen. The football program fielded JV and Frosh squads and competed against 3 other new high schools (Whitney-Rocklin, Pleasent Grove-Elk Grove, and McNair-Stockton). The football season was highlighted with a close JV win over Division-I Hiram Johnson HS in the "Up-&-Coming" Game (RV's version of Home Coming).

River Valley in 2006
In 2006, RV set their sites on their first varsity season. They struggled to a 1-9 record, but did win a league game. The season started in crazy fashion. The varsity team had to get off their bus and walk across the bridge into Marysville. An accident closed the bridge down. As if fate was already tauting RV, the opening kick-off to the season was fumbled and recovered by the host Indians. The Falcons battled, but couldn't overcome their own mistakes.

The Falcons battled back the second week to lose a heartbreaker to play-off bound El Camino. The preseason followed suit to the first 2 games. Inexperience plagued the Falcons, but flashes of ability always crept into the games.

When league play started, the Falcons final exercised the "mistake" demons with a victory over Natomas, 23-20. Special teams and an amazing 9 play goal line stance secured the victory.

Unfotunately, RV was unable to muster any consistancy for the remainder of their league schedule, as 3 of their 4 remaining games were against play-off bound teams.

Hope is on the horizon for River Valley. The JV squad finished 6-4 and the Frosh 5-4-1.
